Mass layoffs continue to rattle the video game industry. Generative AI has sparked a game performer strike and has other developers worried about their jobs.

White men dominate the game industry in the United States and Europe.found that 63% of respondents identified as men and four in five identified as white. Only 4% identified as “Black, African American, African, or Afro-Cuban.”. “We make sure that we are proactively seeking out and inviting Black folks to participate and speak at our event every year.”“Over time we've expanded from a one- day experience to a four- day series of networking discussions, panels and more,” says Small.

“It's definitely a challenge because while many creators of color are in programming positions, there are also a lot of folks who are more on the art side, into community management or into more of the social good focuses such as diversity, equity and inclusion. So we've found that a lot of those roles tend to get hit harder.
