A shipping container operated by Amports leaks petroleum coke, a toxic chemical deemed “too dirty” to be used as fuel in the U.S., from Valero oil refinery at the Port of Benicia on Oct. 12, 2021. Valero and shipping company Amports will pay $2.38 million as part of a settlement with environmental nonprofit San Francisco Baykeeper for dumping petroleum coke into the Port of Benicia. Baykeeper used drone technology to document the pollution.
