The building has been home to a grocery store for most of its 100-year history but has been vacantThe lease was signed at the end of September, according to documents filed with the Cuyahoga County Fiscal Office.
Typically, a retailer will open multiple stores when it first enters a market. Grocery Outlet, which has an owner-operator model, was advertising on its website that it was looking for more locations in Ohio. In June Cleveland Heights approved a $1 million incentive package to help put Grocery Outlet into the empty space. It included buying the Russo family’s 66-space parking lot between Grandview and Bellfield avenues for $660,000. The deal also calls for a $340,000 commercial development loan.Grocery Outlet has also signed a lease for about 26,000 square feet of what used to be a Bed, Bath & Beyond at Ridge Park Square in Brooklyn.
