For one day a year this market town is transformed with festive cheer

Picture the scene: after a bracing walk among snowcapped mountains, you head to a Christmas market held in a picturesque town and then warm up by a roaring fire in a cosy pub. This may sound like a wintery Alpine holiday , but it’s actually exactly what you’ll find in the Lake District this festive season.

Like many towns and cities across the country, Keswick hosts its very own Christmas market, but this one is a little different. For one day only in the first weekend in December, it holds a Victorian Fayre in support of local charities.Stall holders dress up in Victorian costumes, selling a range of locally-made products, homemade gifts along with festive food and drinks. The Fayre goes all out when it comes to festive entertainment, with choirs, brands and more performing throughout the day.

Although the Victorian Fayre is only on for one day only, Keswick itself is perfect for a festive minibreak away. The town’s shops are perfect for a spot of Christmas shopping, while there are plenty of cosy pubs and cafes you can duck into when the weather gets chilly. The Dog & Gun has a lovely open log fire where you can warm up, or visit The Bank Tavern, one of Keswick’s oldest pubs.
