Her attorney says massage parlor owner Chuanxia Wang was unaware of what was going on at her business. But other witnesses tell a different story.

Two women accused of performing sexual acts for money at a Carlisle massage parlor waived preliminary hearings Wednesday in hopes of entering a diversionary program that will eventually see their charges dismissed.

Cumberland County is believed to be especially susceptible to sex trafficking due to the confluence of several major major interstate highways here. But in the case of Chuanxia Wang, owner of Li’s Asian Massage at 300 E. High St., Carlisle, attorney Wendy Chan told PennLive police may have inadvertently come across another victim“I do not believe my client is guilty of any of these charges,” Chan said after a brief court proceeding.

Chan explained that Wang, 65, has told her she was not working full-time at the massage business for the past year or so because her husband, Ronald Miller, was in poor health and much of her time was devoted to caring for him.“These businesses existed to supplement their income a little bit... she certainly wasn’t devoting a lot of time to it,” Chan said of her client.

And, Chan added, it is not at all uncommon for the Chinese employers to include a promise of housing as part of their offers to prospective workers.Arrest records note that a worker at a second Carlisle area spa with some apparent business ties to Li’s and Chuanxia Wang has told investigators Wang instructed her to give “hand jobs” - a slang term for masturbation by another for sexual gratification - to customers during a time period when she was working at Li’s.
