Labour MP Julia Buckley addresses farmers on the current state of the grain market, highlighting the impact of imported wheat and urging early orders.

On November 30, the Labour MP for Shrewsbury, Julia Buckley, attended a meeting of 40 or so farmers in Alberbury Village hall. The grasp of the subject seemed a little sketchy but her promises were reassuring. In terms of the grain trade, the market is still flooded by imported wheat which is acting like a lead weight and keeping the market prices down. New crop is worth in the early £190s at the moment and I think that is certainly worth a dabble.

Nationwide there is 500,000 tonne to be delivered in the next 16 weeks. For customers who order late there will be a long wait, so order now to avoid disappointment and I suspect a supply and demand price rise. Christmas and a new year are approaching. We wish you all the compliments of the season and I really hope the New Year is a lot better than this one has been for us all. Onwards and Upwards
