Stocks ended with strong gains Tuesday, taking back a chunk of the losses suffered a day earlier in Wall Street's worst session of 2019. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +1.21% closed around 312 points higher, up 1.2%, near 26,030, according to preliminary figures, while the S&P 500 SPX, +1.30% rose around 37 points, or 1.3%, to end near 2,882.

The Nasdaq Composite COMP, +1.39% rose around 107 points to end near 7,833, a gain of 1.4%. Stocks dropped sharply on Monday, with the Dow tumbling more than 700 points, on mounting trade-war tensions between the U.S. and China. The bounce came after China set its reference rate for its yuan currency USDCNY, -0.3446% at a stronger-than-expected level.
