UK parliament today: Latest politics news after Boris Johnson's Brexit speech last night

The Prime Minister said he would table a motion for General Election under the Fixed-term Parliaments Act.

He told MPs: "I don't want an election but if MPs vote tomorrow to stop the negotiations and to compel another pointless delay of Brexit, potentially for years, then that will be the only way to resolve this." He said that if MPs voted to block the option of a No Deal Brexit they would "plainly chop the legs out from under the UK position" when he is negotiating.

A motion for the snap poll would be tabled by the Government which would require the support of two-thirds of MPs under the Fixed-term Parliaments Act .LatestBoris sacks 21 Tory turncoats who voted to block No Deal BrexitGirl whose dad lost her on train 20 YEARS ago finally reunited with her parentsCouple drove home from hol & found illegal immigrant in car roof box
