NSTnation: On Sept 19, Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin said the ministry was awaiting the green light from Cabinet to draft the Act.

This, he said follows suggestions for a Transboundary Haze Act to be introduced amid outrage by Malaysia and neighbouring countries being clouded by haze every year.

On Sept 19, Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin said the ministry was awaiting the green light from Cabinet to draft the Act. Recently, an environmental law expert suggested that the government study the United States’ extra-territorial legislation known as the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act 1977 when drafting its proposed Transboundary Haze Act.

On Sept 14, Indonesia’s Environment Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar blamed four Malaysian companies for causing some of the forest fires within its borders.
