The Big 3 market indexes were all higher in morning trading Tuesday, but market breadth data were painting a more bearish outlook for the day. The number of declining stocks was outnumbering advancers 1,339 to 1,329 on the NYSE and 1,510 to 1,069 on the Nasdaq exchange.

Volume of declining stocks represented 64.8% of total volume on the Big Board and 62.2% of total volume on the Nasdaq. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 SPX, -0.22% gained 0.2%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.10% tacked on 41 points, or 0.2%, and the Nasdaq Composite COMP, -0.70% rose 0.1%.
