Why the The Globe began investigating the intersection between trucking companies and the immigration system

Ms. Tomlinson scoured the government database of firms with approvals to hire truck drivers under the Temporary Foreign Worker program. She compiled hundreds of court records, U.S. safety records, job listings and other data from numerous sources on those companies.Eventually, a clear picture emerged, of carriers with bad records also hiring foreign workers, which lined up with what people in that industry were seeing and experiencing.

The MTO has don’t nothing to stop this. Quebec new immigrants show up at DriveTest centres throughout Ontario daily with Brampton addresses to get their Classidied licenses. MTO knows about it and doesn’t care. The MELT program isn’t sufficient.

...cultural invasion...

and one of the disastrous results is the Humbold Tragedy

Truck driving licensing mills....

When 'Dave' shows up in Canada with only last name, we list him as 'Dave,' no first name. System will not do enforcement on 'Dave,' because it needs first & last name. Need better DL security.

We get resumes almost daily, from over seas from tfw drivers. Asking if we are a Lima approved carrier,

Been an issue on the rise for the last couple of decades. No pussy-footing around, it’s a dangerous situation that needs to be addressed. HumboldtBroncos

This explains the appalling number of heavy truck accidents happening daily in Ontario. The OPP and ONtransport are aware of the problems, but ignore what's happening. DriveTest hands out licenses with NO OVERSIGHT from government. How many people need to die before it's fixed?

Ironic, You can see almost daily, a new individual on snapchat posting advertisements about shipping companies looking for 'New immigrant' drivers.

Come hang out in traffic court. We see this constantly... International students with dubious driving credentials working in Canada hoping to be truck drivers. Hardest part is they have one name and enforcement of sanctions is spotty because of identity in system.

So without reading the article I'm going to guess the immigration system was abused and we ended up with unqualified truck drivers. Yes?

This is horrible ... immigration has killed the trucking business...and I am not against immigration... how many more bronco cases do we need

I see this nearly daily. I drive 'Heavy Haul' usually pulling loads of Steel Coils weighing as much as 90,000 or 40,000Kg. New drivers pull up beside me to load and SAY, 'How many chains would you use to load a 27,000 coil?' Chain size? How're you loading, Shotgun or Suicide?
