Hulu's new download feature could improve its mobile user experience at a time when mobile video consumption is on the rise:

last year, that puts annual ad-supported ARPU at $92.85, up from approximately $76.53 in 2018. That's compared with ad-free subscribers, who pay $12 a month — an ARPU of $144 a year, assuming no discounts. Given that revenue difference, Hulu likely hopes to hold on to existing, and potentially tempt new ad-free users with additional benefits, like this new option to download content. together its forthcoming Disney+ service, ESPN+, and ad-free Hulu.

Given that the services will be available as a package deal, Disney likely wishes to provide as standard of a user experience across the platforms as it can. Already, ESPN+ offers an offline viewing feature, and it's been announced that Disney+ will have the feature too. Rolling out the feature to Hulu as well will provide some continuity in user experience once Disney begins selling all three services together.
