Deepening its relationship with Walmart could help further establish Green Dot as a leader in the Banking-as-a-Service space:

Dubbed "TailFin Labs, LLC," the joint venture's mission will be to "develop innovative products, services and technologies that sit at the intersection of retail shopping and consumer financial services."The announcement is an expansion of an existing relationship, as the two companies partnered to launch the Walmart MoneyCard in 2006.

Adding a deeper relationship with Walmart could help further establish Green Dot as a leader in the Banking-as-a-Service space, where it has already seen significant success. Green Dot's BaaS offering will be central to the innovations that come out of the new accelerator. One of TailFin Labs' primary goals will be to expand upon Walmart's existing omnichannel retail shopping tools by leveraging fintech solutions that are built on top of Green Dot's BaaS platform.
