Newsletter publisher Morning Brew more than quadrupled its revenue this year to $13 million, profitably. Now it's aiming for another year of growth and plans to branch out beyond advertising.

by two University of Michigan business students and fraternity brothers, Alex Lieberman and Austin Rief, who wanted to give young professionals a speed-read version of the day's business news.

The founders have grown profitable without taking outside funding that has driven a lot of fast-growing digital media companies. and Mashable struggle, they said they decided to focus on growing in a sustainable way. The staff is young and numbers just 27, and the content is largely aggregated.Initially, they expanded Morning Brew by applying the core newsletter model to retail and tech newsletters. This year they launched their first podcast. In 2020, they plan to add new verticals and newsletters.
