Americans just aren't drinking milk like they used to

In 2010, 55 billion pounds of milk were sold in the United States. By 2018, that figure dropped to 47.7 billion, a decline of about 13%. Last week, that shift finally overwhelmed Dean Foods, the country's biggest dairy processor. In a statement announcing the company's bankruptcy filing, CEO Eric Beringause pointed to"continuing declines in consumer milk consumption.

America's largest milk producer files for bankruptcyThen, in 2012, Dean changed course — doubling down on its dairy portfolio, spinning off WhiteWave and all of the plant-based milks under the Silk brand. The idea was to focus on milk to improve its growth. Today, Dean's product line is almost entirely dairy-based. In addition to milk, it sells sour cream, cottage cheese and ice cream. Although rivals developed lactose-free or protein-rich milks, Dean didn't make significant changes.

How Bankruptcy Works via YouTube

Originally, the consumption of milk in Japan is less than one-third in America. One of the reasons why is because Japanese food doesn’t go with milk. But I love it

No worries, Trump, will save the milk industry, just like he saved the Coal Industry!

I live in France and literally everyone buys milk here How do you do your pancakes for example without milk?

Any healthy marketplace has bankruptcies. If dairies aren’t competing then there are no bankruptcies.

States like NY are killing dairy!

Dean’s needs some melk!!

whyfund In retrospect, who was the first brave (foolish?) person to think it was a good idea to drink the product of a cow's udder? I'm sure it probably goes way back in prehistory and was a matter of necessity, but still...

Here comes lab milk

can't live without milk in my coffe but that's a coupla tablespoons per day. not helping much

Plus.. the way many torture these cows just to get milk..

“Our economy is doing great!” - Trump This is why people need to drink organic almond milk by SO DELCIOUS. Simple ingredients and dairy free. It’s the only milk I can drink anyway without issues 😂😂😭😭

Quit adding sugars and hormones and maybe your product would be more desirable.

I quit drinking milk about 7 years ago . Milk was to expensive & going sour to soon. Now I use Almond milk and love it. Sorry about the bankruptcy but you didn’t stay up with the times. I would love the home delivery like the old days.

Bread more cows and let baby cows drink the stuff. Good for them not so good for humans. Unless of course if it's cheese.

huh?

The USMCA deal would have taken care of that. Dairy to Canada was part of the package. Great job backing the Dems . Them & you aren't hurting the country at all. If you had put just a little pressure on Nancy this wouldn't have happened, but no. All I hear is impeachment crap

Anything that will make bad news for Trump economy, is good news for fake news CNN.

Built the raw milk industry!

That is not how the milk industry operates. This is what we want people to think it looks like. Take a deeper look to understand the true horrors of our food supply system.

This news doesn't sound good.

Could be individual genetics, but possibly the other 'get rich' food industries have tainted the supply with GMO, herbicides, insecticides, mercury, lead, other ... and we have generations now lactose intolerant, with nut allergies, etc ... Or it's the soy & almond guys

So, from what I am reading, everyone is okay with an industry going bankrupt and, jobs lost, because they feel it’s not good for you in general, than rather admit the economy is not doing as great as we would like to pretend it is doing.

Why? Did MAGA trump brag out loud of his tremendously successful econony? No dean food, no sausage for trump.

Want to drink milk, drink milk. Walmart once again under cut on the milk. Contrary to what many believe, there are many lower middle income and low income that, if they can save 25 to 50 cents on milk then they will buy Walmart brand. Uncapped Capitalism can kill also.

priced themselves out of business with inflated prices and government bailouts

The public is starting to learn that dairy isn’t good for you

Anyways the President went bankrupt 3times😋

They couldve tested the lactose-free market.

Almond milk 😂👍🏼

I developed lactose intolerance in my twenties. So I switched to plant based milks. I hope the industry stabilizes, but I don’t plan on going back to cow milk.

Where exactly have the prices dropped?

Doesn't help that Walmart stopped carrying Mayfield and the other stores that do still have the hardest time getting supplies in. Some of this they did themselves.

So dont drink milk because its unhealthy, dont trust the water because it has fluoride and possibly lead and micro plastics, dont drink pop because its just sugar, coffee might be ok in moderation but too much caffeine is bad for you. Wtf are you recommending then?!

Maybe bec people are finally learning that milk is actually awful for your body?
