Apple's revised projection for 5G iPhone shipments likely reflects an improved China outlook:

iPhone prices to offset lower shipments, Apple instead cut the price of the iPhone 11 by $50 relative to the previous comparable model. that increased shipments can offset price reductions to some extent. After referring to the price reductions as "smart and well received," CFO Luca Maestri said in the company's Q4 earnings call Apple is willing to further experiment with this elasticity on a regional basis by further tailoring price points.

Apple's rosy projection for 5G iPhone demand is a positive indication for other 5G smartphone-makers, but it's important to note the role of Apple-specific factors. 5G smartphones look poised to gain market traction next year: Qualcomm projects 200 million 5G smartphones will be sold in 2020,
