had intended to end load shedding at 8 on Thursday morning but have to continue with Stage 2 due to additional breakdowns at substations overnight.
In a statement, Eskom says its reserves are also low and unable to meet demand. Many energy experts have appealed to government to allow independent power producers including private homes to contribute more power to the grid using renewable sources like solar and wind. Eskom spokesperson, Dikatso Mothae says, “We lost additional generations capacity over night with break downs of over 14 000 Megawatts. We previously said that in order to avoid load shedding, we need to contain those unplanned outages or break downs to below 9 500. We had to use our emergency reserves overnight so currently we have depleted those to meet the demand for electricity during the day. As a result we have to load shed throughout the day until tomorrow.
Loadshedding is SA's new norm. Thanks ANC you guys are doing a wonderful job.
