The coal industry in the U.S. has been in steep decline for a decade due to competition from cheap and abundant gas and subsidized solar and wind energy, along with rising public concern over coal’s contribution to climate change

- U.S. coal-fired power plants shut down at the second-fastest pace on record in 2019, despite President Donald Trump’s efforts to prop up the industry, according to data from the federal government and Thomson Reuters.

The replacement of coal with power generation from natural gas and renewables has cut total U.S. carbon emissions in four of the past five years. Gas emits about half the carbon dioxide, a leading contributor to global warming, as coal. Still, since entering office in 2017, an estimated 39,000 MW of coal-fired power plant capacity has shut.

This is how you keep coal miners and the renewable energy sectors both happy. Just TELL one group what THEY want to hear and DO what the OTHER group WANT you to DO.

Duh! At least the public is concerned about global warming. Trump certainly isn't! Better than 50% probability that whatever Trump says is a lie....

Lack of awareness to windmill cancer is the threat.

That’s a lie just like climate change

That's not what the gop says.

That explains why Trump said wind mills cause cancer, that's how he tries to revive coal, with lies.

“Beautiful beautiful clean coal” ~trump~

As a former working life long coal miner (retired) this is sad to me. I do know it is inevitable and necessary but regret that the opportunities I had will not be available to future generations.

And eu converting/closing coal plants doesnt help them for demand too .. And price ... 🤔
