JAKARTA: Indonesian President Joko Widodo has underscored the importance of expanding the export market for products made by the country's state defence industries, according the Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat.

"This is also what I have seen in PT PAL, PT Pindad and PT DI. This is also a leap that we need a bigger market," said the president when chairing a meeting on development of defence equipment system at PT PAL's submarine production facility hangar in East Java provincial capital of Surabaya on Monday.

PT PAL is a state shipyard producing company, PT Pindad is a state company which manufactures military products, and PT DI is a state aircraft manufacturing company. Other things needed, according to Widodo, are those on technology transfer, cooperation with other state-owned enterprises , increasing domestic contents as well as developing production chains among SOEs, small and medium-sized enterprises, and private companies.

Widodo also requested that the development of defence equipment be able to absorb and adopt the latest digital technology development. - dpa/Asian News Network
