British farmers fear Boris Johnson will surrender UK food standards to Trump in talks with 'fearsome' US negotiators

that it would not "compromise on our high environmental protection, animal welfare and food standards."

Nick von Westenholz, the NFU's Brexit director, told Business Insider that while it was "very reassuring" to hear statements from Johnson and his ministers, the union representing farmers is still concerned about what the prime minister will actually do when free trade negotiations with the US get underway.

"Let's be honest: the UK government is going to come under tremendous pressure on some of these issues [in negotiations]." NFU President Minette Batters said it would tell ministers to "hold the line that they will uphold British farming's high standards in trade deals, and crucially they must hold imports entering the country to that same standard."

Von Westenholz told Business Insider that the US was not the only negotiation which the NFU was concerned about.

BIUK I have absolutely no sympathy for them, they knew what they voted for. At least that’s what they’ve been telling us since the vote. They’ve made their beds....

farmers British farmers voted Tory British farmers voted with their eyes wide open Hard luck to British farmers if Johnson surrenders to Trump

US food standards are higher than EU. More BS from Facist Remoaners. EU had steak fun horse meat for years without telling consumers. FactsMatter FascismMustFail FakeNewsMedia Brexit

Not surrender lower the standards as the US standards are outdated and hardly exist.

Game on for the Brits, a courageous move, now you have to make trade deals with the big boys to survive, when you are so small. Immigration was the cause of Brexit and I don't blame for frustration, but a long difficult road ahead. BrexitReality Hope you survive, we need u.

adampayne26 Of course he will. He rolled over and had his tummy tickled by the EU

If I'm not mistaken, a large majority of farmers voted leave....
