Covid-19 has upended both SXSW and Coachella, but more disruptions are on the way as the live music industry scrambles to change course

. Organizers had been having conversations with artist teams for days prior, according to sources close to the situation — and plenty of artists on the bill have fall tours planned.

“There’s not much [organizers] can really do at this point,” one agency source says, adding that event attendees may only see an increase in hand sanitizer. “ And accurate data is still far out of reach. “You’re weighing the risks to public health and safety, there’s nothing more paramount than that,” Jaconi said. “That’s the thing entertainment and sports are weighing right now. We don’t have the best data.

Coachella is the second-largest festival in the United States, attracting a total of around 600,000 people in 2019. In 2019, Jim Curtis — the City Services Manager of Indio, where Coachella takes place — told NBC that $1.4 billion in profits was projected that year from the Coachella and Stagecoach festivals. Fuuucck...there goes my summer😥

I guess Ticketmaster will just raise their fees to cover it

Feeling so sad....

Wow 😯 this is an eye opening article! I have some concert tix for September and I’m beginning to doubt that they will be able to put the shows on. The economic catastrophe just for the music industry is unheard of, especially since insurance won’t be covering much

As a Stones fan, I’ll be very interested to see how a group of guys in their mid to upper 70’s feel it is safe to go on a tour should this continue

Who the hell can afford it anyways?

The artist are the real losers, it’s the majority of real profits with merch - hopefully their insured. I’ve cancelled my summer - and will continue spewing hate on twitter for toilet paper abusers and boycotting China

VR concerts

screwlivenation they are a bunch of crooks anyways. The fans were never at the core of their business. The only thing they care about is how to extract money from loyal fans and screw the artists.

What? No government prop up?

The artists themselves will find a way to deliver for fans. However, the music industry will use this as another excuse to not pay hard working artists.
