New York City's mayor warns April and May are going to be 'a lot worse' than March as coronavirus cases surge

"All Americans deserve the blunt truth, it is only getting worse," Mayor Bill de Blasio said on NBC's "Meet The Press" on Sunday morning. "April is going to be worse than March. And I fear May will be worse than April."As of Saturday evening, 10,356 New York State residents had tested positive for coronavirus, reports"Right now, we are a third of the cases in the country," de Blasio said. "That's going to get worse.

He called for President Trump to mobilize the military to aid New York and use the Defense Production Act to produce necessary tools like ventilators for patients. Later on Sunday morning, during an appearance on CNN, de Blasio said "we're about 10 days away" from seeing widespread shortages of ventilators, surgical masks, "the things necessary to keep a hospital system running."A top doctor sounds the alarmabout the safety of healthcare workers and the resources available to fight the virus.
