BRASILIA - Brazil’s health minister said on Wednesday that the country’s attempts to purchase thousands of ventilators from China to fight a growing coronavirus epidemic had fallen through and the government is now looking to Brazilian companies to build the devices.

An attempt to buy 15,000 ventilators in China did not go through and Brazil was making a new bid, he said, but the outcome is uncertain in the intense competition for medical supplies in the global pandemic. Health authorities began to sound the alarm this week over supply shortages as hospitals faced growing numbers of patients with COVID-19.

Two of the deaths occurred in Rocinha, one the largest slums in South America where more than 100,000 people live.

Is it a joke?! What 'local industry' Everything in Brazil is 'Made in China', from auto parts to clothes, although with our raw materials (iron, oil, cotton...). I wonder if the world go to war with China, it would by ammo from there as well.

Go Brazil🙌

DrAlfOldman Implies that China still has massive need for ventilators.

We all need to be more self reliant and rely less on other countries and regions. Our security is in our hands not the hands of others.

That's really fast, if they start looking now.... coronavirusbrazil

Stay safe, Brazil.

A lot of countries have been taught by this experience that having a rock-solid domestic industrial & manufacturing base, is key to its survival. The other outlaying advantages-jobs for its citizens, revenue for the gov't &, national security. There's been no better illustration.

Chinese make more money in Europe . Those EU cowboys, always stealing the goods 🙄🙄🙄 Brasil Can you help Brazil POTUS VP like you helped Italy? A billion should do for now.

What is funny is that, after their US imports, China relies on Brazilian food imports the most to feed their country. China is actively burning bridges with the countries that feed their population, famine is going to be inevitable.

Good news🤙
