If his test had come back as positive, some of the nation’s top security officials as well as the government’s most senior ministers would have been forced to self-isolate for two weeks under the new Track and Trace programme.’s second enforced period of isolation, after he spent 10 days sealed off in No11 Downing Street when he first contracted the virus in mid-March.

The NHS insists that people who have already had coronavirus are not excused from having to isolate as it's unclear how long any immunity they have from it lasts. No10 also revealed Mr Sharma held a 45 minute meeting in Downing Street with the PM and Chancellor on Tuesday before the NSC meeting to discuss the economy. All three observed the two metre social distancing rule during it, aides insisted.

Along with senior Cabinet ministers, the heads of Britain's three intelligence agencies MI5, MI6 and GCHQ also attend the NSC’s weekly meetings - held every Tuesday afternoon - along with the Chief of Defence Staff.
