Having a secure domestic supply will be particularly important if there is a second wave of the deadly virus that causes COVID-19 in the fall, triggering another wild, global scramble for PPE

China is the dominant supplier of PPE. With the outbreak starting in that country, there was a severe shortage of equipment as the disease first started spreading around the world in March. Countries were outbidding one another for supplies that were often never delivered.

But the Public Services and Procurement Canada website says Canada has still not received anywhere near the quantities of PPE that have been ordered. As of June 16, 55.7 million face shields had been ordered but only 17.6 million received; more than one billion pairs of gloves ordered but only 42.3 million received; 126.6 million gowns ordered but only 4.6 million received; 20.4 million litres of hand sanitizer ordered but just 7.1 million litres received.

As well, Canada had ordered 121.9 million of the coveted N95 respirators and 340.8 million surgical masks, just 12.9 million and 110.9 million of which respectively had been received. Of the 40,328 ventilators ordered, just 367 had been received. Keeping two metres away from others means keeping yourself away from most of the droplets someone sick with COVID-19 might emit, public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam says, and having fewer cases circulating in Canadian communities hasn't changed that safer distance.

About time

Thanks! Keep going.

Thought this was Ray Romano for a hot second

Now that we hardly need them? Good job. Pft. How about being self-sufficient at everything else? Worst part is, even when we are as a country self-sufficient, as in with oil, politicians sell the country out, by mostly using and buying foreign oil. See the problem?

Go back to work and accountability.

👍

Well, stop allowing Canadian resource companies being sold to China. If done correctly Canada could have become a power house a long time ago as we have an abundance of resources

What about canada pharmaceuticals? cdnpoli brianlilley

Allow exemptions for fiances/Gf/Bf to quarantine with partners. We aren't asking for the whole border to open. It's 4.5 months & no end in sight. Denmark etc has deemed them 'essential'. No reason why Canada/US can't. They aren't tourists! LiftTheTravelBan

globepolitics Why would I believe anything the PM says? He lies and obfuscates constantly. The airports never closed or had sufficient testing for inbound flyers. His and Tam's dithering, delays and indecision have cost thousands of Canadian lives and crippled our economy.

The Dainty Half-Wit loves China’s basic dictatorship.

Anyone making gloves ?Dental suppliers warning of shortages / limited on ordering now to prevent this .. JustinTrudeau fordnation can’t work without gloves 🧤 get your dental work done ✅ in an office that kept original strict protocols .. new rules are pre-Covid

Businesses ie gloves and masks are paying outrageous prices for equipment. Masks can be as little as 1 dollar a mask or as much as 8 dollars a mask - cloth are not optional. I want to be able to write off my black market supplies I was forced to buy. - legally can't
