Many of New York's streets have come alive with fenced-in dining areas with tables and umbrellas and decorated with flower boxes and hanging plants.

Before July, that lot was empty. Hunky Dory's owner, Claire Sprouse, struck up a deal with the owner to fix it up and use it for outdoor dining. She cleared out barbed wire and trash and put in tables and umbrellas.

It was a hefty investment for Sprouse, costing about $10,000, at a time when her business is scraping by from months of being closed to dining because of the pandemic. So far, though, Sprouse says the risk is worth it. She's bringing in 60% of what her normal revenue was before the pandemic.

So what happens in November through February when it’s 20 degrees and snowing?

If they can do it in NY then we can ✌️

close the roads

*indoor dining prohibited on NYC except in NYC schools

If the employees of a restaurant have to dress like storm troopers in order to safely serve you outside, maybe you should just learn how to poach your own god damn eggs.

95 degrees and 95% humidity what a lovely place to eat, on those spit and piss soaked streets.

Can't think of anywhere I'd like to eat food more than the piss-soaked NYC streets.

Not to mention the fact that this is NYC, which means you'll be eating on top of all the garbage bags and cans that are normally piled up all over the sidewalks. I'm sure there's a metaphor in there somewhere.

No problem for real New Yorkers.

Are they feeding the homeless for free?

Because the street is somehow cleaner than inside of a restaurant? I don't get it...

They're doing it here in Maine too. Kind of obnoxious, as I now have to walk around them, because they take up the sidewalk and most of the bike lane.

In related news : People on patio's who are infected with Covid carry on spreading.

In the EU there are hundreds upon hundreds of oirdoor places like this, HELLO! 🤦🏻

Can’t imagine how they could remedy that. 🧐

Somehow as usual New York misses out on main street media announcement oh that’s right they didn’t announce it , it was only on the CDC website more people are dying from pneumonia right now than the coronavirus

Has NPR reported on the crimes committed by BLM and Antifa?

So we need a waiver of liability incase you get run over eating

So being forced to eat outside with your food exposed to the outdoor elements and people walking by etc is healthier? 🤷🏽‍♂️

ya think
