A growing distaste for the oil business among potential young employees, combined with the economic crisis of the pandemic, could make it harder to tackle competition from renewable energy and electric vehicles

Two years out of college, Leah Sanders was making as much as $19,000 a month servicing oil wells in Kuwait. After getting laid off in May by oil-field services giant Schlumberger Ltd., she’s back with her parents in Tennessee, earning $15 an hour helping out at her father’s construction business. She recently began considering switching careers and going to law school.

“I don’t think it’s going to recover as fast as I hoped it would,” said Ms. Sanders, 24. “Do you want to wait and go back to something that you spent two years...

Why would any fossil fuel company hire any of the muffins that have growing distaste for the oil business among potential young employees. Companies should recruit brightest & smartest from high school, colleges & universities. Got to be lots of people that won't work at Mac'D

0. That’s it’s future.

It is no wonder.

It is a dying industry. Kids have understood that and spare themselves a future job switch.

Don't worry foreign workers and immigrants will fill the jobs while you sit at home finger painting and rioting in the streets. Until they get sick of carrying you and revolt themselves. Laziness and soft minded college thought lead to a dark path.

This is one of those problems that is readily solved by paying more money.

Salaries up $$$ 😊

Let it just die out naturally as greener sources expand.

WofTF 🤔 👍🏽

Good.

What? You guys need to get over yourself.

All manufacturing industries struggle to find the next generation. We recently interviewed a college graduate and she told us straight forward that she wants to “travel and manage stuff, but not too much”.

Decades of worker safety regulations, put in place after deadly catastrophes and hard work from surviving family members to prevent their pain from happening to others, have been wiped out by Trump. I'd think twice, too. Oil is a dangerous industry.

every 10 yrs this sector tanks, massive layoffs, why would anyone want to get into this industry

Show me the monay & I’m in. Idgaf if it’s renewable or oil. Will gladly take my talents to the best bid. 👍🏼 They got nothing to worry about. Most young people are not fu-fu like this article wants u to believe.

Oil is old and needs to go. Combustion engines will soon be next to steam engines in museums. Useful for its time but now obsolete.

They deserve that!

False.

Oil companies could help their cause by refusing to bow to the false attacks levied by the left and instead educate the population on the prosperity and benefits of cheap reliable energy sources such as fossil fuel, nuclear and hydroelectric energy

The oil and gas industry doesn’t know what business it’s in! It’s in the energy business! . If it produces energy, oil, gas, renewable then it should be on the table. After all the future will be oil, gas and renewables, not oil, gas, or renewable! Grow up!

I don’t believe that finding new talent is the main thing keeping energy execs up at night. Most E&Ps are just trying to survive right now. Young staff are being wiped out. No time/resources to train them.

No progress toward viable alternative energy will be possible with the anti-nuke greenies in charge. Difficulty recruiting will accelerate AI and actually widen the real economic advantage of fossil fuels until nukes arrive, whenever that may be.

life is short, and careers are shorter. Why waste both?

Yeah, I know how much all those kids hate traveling to the Permian base or up to Noeth Dakota for those $100k jobs. EV sales in the US are barely 2% market share. There’s literally no competition.

Boom and bust isn’t an attractive career track either.

It’s really too bad the propaganda against these industries have been perpetrated by people in our government we are not the Flintstones but we have not become the Jetsons yet and act as though we are one or the other is stupid

Not distaste, ignorance. This is a generation that believes the world comes readymade. Water from the tap; electricity from a socket in the wall; gas from a pump. Failure of education has taken critical thinking off the curriculum.
