JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board assistant economic affairs officer and his wife for abuse of power.

MACC sources said the 39-year-old officer was alleged to have abused his position by choosing his wife to supply pineapple fertilisers in 2014 and 2015, amounting to more than RM65,000 in value.“The suspect and his wife, a 37-year-old housewife, were arrested at the Johor MACC office at 10.15am on Wednesday , ” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 18,23 and 28 of the MACC Act 2009, which upon conviction, carries a fine of five times the bribe amount or RM10,000, or whichever is higher, and a jail term of not more than 20 years.
