'We are appealing to the government to partly fund the new buses as we simply cannot afford them.'

Its adviser Lau Khing Seng said currently the 12 bus companies in the state could not afford to buy new buses due to poor business caused by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Most of the buses owned by these companies are old. In order to revolutionise the public transport industry, there is a need to buy new buses. ‘We are appealing to the government to partly fund the new buses as we simply cannot afford them, ”he said. A bus meant for long distance journeys costs between RM400,000 and RM450,000 each while the mid-range type with 30 to 50 seats is between RM300,000 and RM320,000.
