US bans imports from Malaysia’s palm oil company FGV

FGV, the world’s largest crude palm oil producer, and some other suppliers of the oil used in everything from food to cosmetics to biodiesel have long faced allegations from rights groups over labour and human rights abuses. — Picture by Choo Choy May

The investigation also raised concerns that forced child labour was potentially being used in FGV’s production processes, CBP said in a statement, adding that the ban would come into effect immediately. Smith said CBP had received allegations around the broader palm oil industry and asked US importers to look into the labour practices of their suppliers.

Wonder what will the Minister say, hmmm ... We will form a committee to investigate? Blame it on the previous minister? Do nothing

Its nothing political. US ban the import due to pressure from environmentalists that believe palm oil plantation contributing to global warming. If DAP was the government, US would still ban the import regardless. The worst thing was no body will buy including turkey or India.

The ban, known as a Withhold Release Order, comes a year after GLJhub ILRF RAN SumofUs petitioned CBP to sanction FGV over forced labor on their palm oil plantations in Malaysia. Read our press release on the news here:
