Business groups have warned border closures risk damaging business confidence and leaving multibillion dollar industries in tatters.

The nation's biggest business groups have lashed state and territory governments for shutting down interstate travel, saying the reaction to the latest coronavirus outbreak has been disproportionate and will leave entire industries failing without more federal support.

Border closures and travel restrictions in response to Sydney's coronavirus outbreak have caused headaches for travellers.Ai Group chief executive Innes Willox said borders were being shut "at the drop of a hat". Tourism and Transport Forum chief executive Margy Osmond said the industry group, in conjunction with the Business Council of Australia, wanted an urgent meeting of national cabinet to resolve the issue.

"As borders continue to be closed and businesses are affected there will have to be additional support. It's the time of year where they make a good portion of their annual turnover," he said.

Exactly. Nsw economy is going along nicely, we don't need interstate tourism to bank roll our state like every other one does. We have the population and the gov to allow this to happen. In my opinion none of GST should go to anyone else. Stuff ya

Stop bringing the f**king virus into Australia and maybe, just maybe local businesses will have a chance.

If we all spend and travel in our home States business should do very well. No one is going overseas for a long time. There is money to burn on the home front.

Barking at the wrong tree. Ask GladysB SleepyGladys the shredder when she wakes up if she has another cluster waiting to rupture!

Business can't recover while outbreaks keep occurring. Solve health problems

They can't recover until this is over anyway. The international border is closed, demand down globally. They should be pushing for a faster vaccination rollout.

2020 showed us a few things ... one of them is the lunacy and idiocy of Australian style federalism.

People don't take holidays, go shopping or eat out when they don't feel safe maybe these business muppets need to push NSW to do something to stop the GladysOutbreak

We can’t recover without citizens.

Speak to GladysTheCovidiot.

Mainstream media are the ones creating panic and the governments are too scared to take the risk of negative headlines. Time for strong leadership.

Gladys is the only state Premier who can hold her head high through all of this. Only one with a measured, calm and effective response to outbreaks. Dictator Dan and Palachook in particular need to take a good, hard look at themselves...

Good stuff greedy business types

But isn't the whole point of the Berejiklian/Morrison gold standard farting about with Covid to keep business happy?

Definitely should be following a national framework which SHOULD have been decided in time for the festive season at the last National Cabinet.

Maybe if GladysTheCovidiot mandated masks, and stopped telling porkies about kids not catching or spreading a virus, then other State Premiers would have had more confidence in her ability to manage. Increasing case numbers, mixed messages & persistent underaction led to this.

Well ask Gladys to do something to stop the spread. She's too gutless.

The States continue to close borders BECAUSE of the Federal government handouts. Once they are removed, these states will magically reopen them again, knowing they’ll be financially responsible for their constituents.

All this crap needs to be sorted out before China attacks! ScottMorrisonMP

Just huve it to the people. It's now obvious. After the GFC, ang the first pandemic slump the only group the government has given money to and it actually worked was the people themselves.

No more hand outs

Take it up with Gladys the shredder No other State trusts her to do the right thing

They’re just keeping us safe from positive PCR tests. That’s the only place a 1 in 100 year pandemic is visible anyway.
