SEREMBAN: A construction company director was fined RM55,000 by the Sessions Court here after pleading guilty to a charge of allowing 11 illegal immigrants to enter and remain in his premises.

Judge Mohd Sabri Ismail ordered Chan Nan Chew to serve six months in jail if he was unable to pay the fine.According to the facts of the case, the Immigration Department had detained 15 foreigners at a hotel construction site in Nilai on Jan 3, 2020 for contravening the Immigration Act.

The 15, who were working at the site when arrested, were later found to have contravened provisions under the Act. They were subsequently charged at a special Sessions Court for illegals at the foreign worker depot in Lenggeng. A probe by the department later showed that the accused had allegedly allowed 11 of them to be present at the project site.However, Chan pleaded guilty to the charge during case management on Friday .
