The Business Council of Australia’s CEO Jennifer Westacott has called for a “green paper and a white paper” on the potential for a nuclear industry in Australia.

Green and white papers are policy documents released by the government, often used to encourage discussion and feedback.

Ms Westacott said it was “time for us to do the work and do the thinking” on the whole nuclear industry. “The thing that I always get grumpy about is that we have this ideological kind of thing – we rule it out because we just don’t like it. “Let’s do the work now; let’s do the work on the regulation, the skills, the capability, the infrastructure, so that as that technology improves … that we’re actually ready to go.”
