A Google shareholder is pressing the company to investigate whether its products harm racial minorities

The Nathan Cummings Foundation filed a shareholder resolution asking for a third-party audit. An Alphabet shareholder is urging the Google parent company to investigate whether its products and services have harmful effects on racial minorities.this week asking for a third-party racial-equity audit that would investigate whether its work negatively affected Black and Indigenous people and other people of color. It also wants the findings to be made public.

The Nathan Cummings Foundation held $757,424 worth of Alphabet shares as of 2019, according to a copy of its tax return. It would not share its most recent holdings. NCF and other supporting groups will lobby Alphabet's biggest institutional shareholders and proxy advisory firms to vote on the proposal at Alphabet's next shareholder meeting, typically held in June.

Open Mic and NCF said they were concerned that racial-equity problems within Google were being siloed and believed an independent audit would give a better bird's-eye view.
