The Department of Public Works and Highways has completed the construction of a 204-meter road project that will reduce half of the travel time for farmers between two Barangays of Apatut and Nagsabaran in the town of Balaoan in La Union.
DPWH Secretary Roger Mercado said that the project – under Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan – will improve the logistical problems of the residents, particularly the farmers, and ensure safer and faster delivery of farm products coming from the province. “Residents in the area as well as the neighboring barangays can now conveniently access social and healthcare services,” said Mercado.
“Making activities of daily living and regular trips to the doctor much more easier, especially for children and vulnerable persons.” Mercado said that aside from the agricultural and economic benefits, the road improvement also offers easy access and faster travel time for residents, tourists, employees, drivers, and other daily road users. The project is expected to help lessen the transport costs by reducing travel time from about 22 minutes to only 10 minutes coming from the barangays of Apatut and Nagsabaran to the town proper of Balaoan.
