Ford, Toyota and General Motors have had to shut down plants or otherwise curtail production on both sides of the U.S.-Canada border due to the blockade of the Ambassador Bridge between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario.

Trucks heading to Canada are stuck in heavy traffic after they were diverted to the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron, Mich., Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022, after the Ambassador Bridge was closed due to Canadian anti-vaccine protests.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said in a bulletin to local and state law enforcement agencies that it has received reports that truckers are planning to “potentially block roads in major metropolitan cities” in a protest against vaccine mandates and other issues. Trucks block access to the Ambassador Bridge, linking Detroit and Windsor, as truckers and their supporters continue to protest against the COVID-19 vaccine mandates and restrictions in Windsor, Ontario, on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022.

Honda said that its assembly plant in Alliston, Ontario, north of Toronto, had to suspend production on one assembly line on Wednesday, but that it was back in operation Thursday. As of Wednesday, the demonstration involved 50 to 74 vehicles and about 100 protesters, police said. Ottawa police said Thursday they were “able to negotiate for a dozen more trucks to leave” downtown and said 10 others left, but the city warned about traffic disruptions because of a new demonstration at the Ottawa airport. Police also said a deliberate effort to flood its 911 line with calls was underway.

I can see a SouthPark episode coming that addresses automation on a much deeper level. I can just see a scene with TeslaAIBot pulling up in a Semi to guest speak at the kids school about the 4th Indistrial Revolution. ;)

;) “More than meets the eye.”

The companies (Ford, GM, Toyota...) that have been damaged by this illegal behavior should sue for damages. Bankrupt every one of those truckers.

These Far-Right attacks on the economy of two democracies makes Putin smile. Misinformation is more powerful than cruise missiles.
