Russian President Vladmir Putin is using his country’s energy as a weapon against the world, but the U.S. energy industry could be the perfect defense, Sen. Joe Manchin said Friday in Houston., the West Virginia Democrat said, which is why he’s calling for use of the Defense Production Act to mobilize the American energy industry and “meet the needs of the world.”Manchin joined Sen.

Murkowski said she was frustrated by the Biden administration’s reluctance to approve more domestic oil, gas and mining projects.

Murkowski said the Biden administration has been focused on climate policy, not energy policy, and said she hoped it would begin to see that the two are not mutually exclusive. Climate goals need to be balanced with the reality of what is happening in Ukraine and in Europe, she said.
