Women leaders in cannabis are increasing in number and helping to recruit others.

The cannabis industry’s own track record for female CEOs is a mere 8 percent, according toOverall, leadership progress in cannabis has occurred in fits and starts: According to areleased late last year, the female executive ratio was 22 percent, down from 36.8 percent in 2019 .

Still, there are some important tips to help women climb the ladder in this “traditionally male-dominated industry,” as Phillips describes it. She points in particular to the need for male allies, identifying her own ally as Michael Cammarata, Neptune’s CEO, who recruited Phillips for the company’s board, valuing her background in TV production and networks, franchising and government defense finance. The latter, Phillip says, was valuable in helping her master complex numbers.
