Residents and businesses along the proposed final stage of a cycle route in Brisbane's north fear it will only make a congested area even more dangerous and rob a major transport hub of commuter car parks.

"There is millions of dollars worth of bikeway from Toombul north through to the airport.

Sydney Street homeowner Mal Peters organised a petition signed by 1,000 people opposed to the final stage of the NBB traversing Keith, Sydney and Jackson streets. Some residents say installing a roundabout at the intersection of Park Avenue and Sydney Street is unnecessary. Example of a green street, similar to the one proposed for Sydney and Jackson streets, where riders are encouraged to travel closer to the centre of the road.

No free parking in public streets. What a rort.

The North Brisbane Bikeway supporters’ ride is on Sunday 1 May from Windsor Park at 9am. Come along to support the bikeway and local cafes.

The 3rd world mess that the BCC produced as a bike way along Dickson St is clearly evident. If said bikeway is put in place with the same build quality, it’s no wonder they complaining. I wouldn’t want the pigsty either.

And yet no evidence. Every times bikes displace cars we all win. Do we give a national voice to every whiner standing in the way of progress?

Can't wait for that cycle way, having a cycleway follow a train line just makes sense

So sick of this uninformed argument, on-street parking is a privilege, whereas safety for all road users is a right! There are so many studies showing that active transport infrastructure decreases traffic, increases property values, livability and clientele at businesses.

Should that read: After community consultation, that commenced in 2018, local residents & businesses decide their perceived convenience is more important than safety improvements for people who ride bikes.

The project is about the reallocation of public space from storage of private property to the safe movement of people. Once installed it will allow the safe movement of thousands of people every day reducing the need for car travel in the area and such reducing congestion.

Why do these people think they're entitled to on-street parking subsidised by BCC ratepayers?

Wow. multi million dollar suburb doesn't want something that might impact house values.. that's what it's really about.

The main trouble is some cyclists still want to use the roads, they use the footpaths, pedestrian crossings and the roads, and then don't use the cycle tracks which cost a lot of money in tax from the rest of us.

More abc negative reporting from the right wing anti-science fringe as mainstream news.

Wanting to maintain a high speed car corridor, commuter parking and rejecting safe cycling infrastructure as “over engineering”. How quaint.

If the problem is about a lack of commuter parking, then that problem also needs to be addressed, not just by failing to address the need for a bikeway connection.

They are frighted of a bikeway but welcome cars and trucks on roads outside their houses and businesses. What a perverse world they live in. Perhaps they should move to LA?

Cycling infrastructure brings people and business These fools have it the wrong way about. They should be demanding more bikes and fewer cars
