Net Zero Tracker finds two-thirds of 702 companies with a net-zero target have made it unclear how they plan to achieve that goal

Corporate plans to slash greenhouse gas emissions fall short of what is needed to combat climate change, with “major credibility gaps” found among the world’s largest companies, according to a new stocktake of net-zero efforts in the public and private sector.

Net Zero Tracker, run in part by the British-based Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit and the University of Oxford, assesses publicly available data for about 200 countries as well as large publicly traded companies, including those in fossil fuels. Many companies with net-zero targets have set no interim emissions goals for before 2050, which the report said was “unacceptably low” if the world is to halve emissions in the next eight years, as scientists say is needed.

Governments will need to impose legal standards and regulations to ensure net-zero progress, said co-author John Lang of the ECIU. At the moment, companies are confused about what’s needed from them. “They don’t know what information has to be disclosed,” he said.

No duhhh

2/2 the very system, corporations, their enablers. supporters, beneficiaries etc (you get the picture) that have been on the job of destroying everything for profit, at any cost. Yes they do some good, but mainly bad and ugly. High % of what they do/make is not needed by society

Net-zero by neo liberal capitalistic corporations? Whoever came up with this idea? How does this square out with their only goal; TO MAXIMIZE PROFIT AT ANY COST. Yes, any cost in human, environmental or any other cost, even the very extinction of our/millions of species. It's 1/2

Shocker

The simple fact is that net-zero is very likely impossible or only possible at an exorbitant price. Not only will the companies not make, nor will the govts - especially the sciency Turdeau govt

globebusiness Duh follow what they do Only listen halfway to figure out how much they lie
