A source close to the family told SaharaReporters that Aluko died on Friday, July 1 at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Chief Akanni Aluko, an entrepreneur and publisher of the defunct Third Eye Newspaper has passed on.The 78-year-old entrepreneur was said to have been battling an undisclosed ailment for some time. He was a geologist and the only child of Mrs Adedoja Aluko from Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

He was the father of Kola Aluko, a Nigerian energy business magnate with interests in African infrastructure development and aviation. Kola Aluko is the Co-Chief Officer and an Executive Director of Atlantic Energy, an indigenous, private upstream oil and gas company, focused on independent exploration and production in Nigeria.

Kola Aluko was ranked by Forbes Africa as one of the 40 richest Africans, as well as included in the Top Ten list of Successful African Entrepreneurs to Follow on Twitter.In March, Kolawole Akanni Aluko, lost his bid to reclaim some of his assets forfeited to the Nigerian Government over alleged corruption and money laundering.

Among the assets seized is a mansion in Abuja which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said was valued at about $18 million.
