A new council trial of flashing awareness signs on one of Brisbane's busiest shared pathways is met with mixed responses from cyclists and pro-pedestrian groups.

A new council trial of flashing awareness signs on one of Brisbane's busiest shared pathways has been met with mixed responses from cyclists and pro-pedestrian groups.Brisbane City Council is trialling two Bicycle Awareness Monitors along the Kangaroo Point Bikeway

"[The Kangaroo Point] pathway is used by about 3,000 people cycling, walking, or riding a day and these new signs will alert approaching riders of their speed and indicate if their speed is below or above 15km/h," Mr Schrinner said."Brisbane is an incredible city to walk and ride around, but it's important everyone uses our shared paths considerately and safely. Travelling at the correct speed is an important part of this.

"It will be interesting to see if these BAMs, which is a cool name for it, adjust people's behaviour. "There a saying that goes, 'If you need a sign the design is wrong', and I think that applies a little bit here.

although this is a step up from 'Cyclists dismount'

Someone on a scooter with a mobile phone was going to stab me earlier, I live in dalby and my name is Geoffrey Moore

The kangaroo point 'bikeway' if you can even call it that is a farce. It severely needs a redesign because for pedestrians it is incredibly confusing and narrow. Get rid of the parking there and it would solve a lot of the issues!

For those demanding that I invest my efforts to where the risk and road trauma really is in the transport network. No, I won't. Now back to flying cars.

We concur with the sentiments of both BrisbaneWestBUG and QueenslandWalks!

The biggest problem with the Kangaroo Point bike/footpath is the inconsistency. It alternates between a segregated and shared path, causing confusion. Speed is only part of the problem. Brisbane

How about some sort of ID for bikes, scooters etc. At least you maybe can then identify those who do knock people over, especially on footpaths, run red lights and ignore pedestrian crossings

If they can speed limit scooters, why not speed limit cars?

I don’t even live in Brisbane yet I know the trial will show 9/10 e-scooter riders will be riding stupidly and dangerously way over the speed limit. How do I know? Cos 9/10 of e-scooter riders are inconsiderate, ignorant geese.
