The skills gap has been a long time in the making with little to do with Brexit salopdesign has been banging this drum for over 3 years! Let’s do more to support and encourage highly skilled apprenticeships marchescentre

Brotosh manufacturing skills have become non existant sincevthe pre EU days of the 70’s & 80’s. If that was on purpose to force the start of a co-dependance back then?

Post Brexit Sky News facing news shortage!

Start training earlier than we do now. Its pretty clear from the age of 12/13 which route you will be taking. Drop shit subjects in schools and start teaching practical skills and tasters of engineering, building, plumbing etc etc

That's because the Labour Party allowed hundreds of thousands of Eastern European people into country swamping the labour market with cheap labour and trained workers who did the job for half the wages, small firms closed so no apprenticeships

Train our own then instead of bringing in cheap labourers

Companies used to train their staff, not import labour.

Get our kids of the streets and give them a aim in life for once train them up

POST BRIXT SKILLED WORKERS CAN BE BROUGHT FROM INDIA. INDIA HAS GREAT NUMBER OF SKILLED WORKERS. BRITISH GOVERNMENT WAS TOO IDIOT NOT TO ALLOW SKILLED WORKERS INTO BRITAIN. THIS WAS BRITISH GOVERNMENT'S BIGGEST MISTAKE OVER THE YEARS.

But it is short of skilled workers already.Nothing to do with Brexit you lying bastards. Press regulation is needed in this country.

I can only speak for the Construction Industry which has a skills shortage now....decades ago the industry’s ‘leading lights’ decided they could reduce costs by scrapping their training and apprenticeship schemes. They created the problem that exists now.

Manufacturing Skills Gap; the simple reason is we have not been investing in the sector for 40 years because of the buffet table called the EU. Simple fact both Labour & Torries follows a false long term economic route. But hey they know best.

Brexit doesn't have anything to do with the skills shortage. We, as many other nations (USA, Germany etc) all face a skills shortage

No get it right. Cheap labour.

Well give our kids apprenticeships sorted

I’m trying to do my bit The GIVE FREE PracticalSkills4Kids Initiative . Please support me .

Great, higher wages

Which is why if we leave with no Deal and control immigration we can let in only the ones we need.

Just sky being pathetic again. Sad sad sky.

False economy training foreign johnny that will return home. Train British up, and stop their dole if they dont comply

Another Sky News anti Brexit story, they just keep coming, two and a half years now,and they still won’t accept the result of the referendum, the people have spoken,we are Leaving, get over it !

I can remember when uk firms used to have Apprentices and where willing to train people... so they bought the shortage on themselves

What manufacturing,? Globalist elites have outsourced and sold off virtually all UK manufacturing and industry over the past 30 yrs to maximize their own power and wealth. They have not invested in the working class and creating a underclass crime and benefits dependent system.

There’s a thing we used to do in the UK called ‘Training’. It was abandoned because it was too expensive for the poor hard up employers and they could import cheap labour from elsewhere without having to invest in infrastructure to accommodate the increasing population.

Well it will give our children a chance then!

So being in the disastrous EU has stopped us developing manufacturing skills as a nation ? Thanks Sky, another great reason for us to leave

Train the youth then dickheads

The anti Brexit propaganda machine that is Sky rolls on....

Maybe if they paid a decent wage combined with more acceptable working conditions you would start to attract and keep local labour instead.

Utter nonsense! Why tell us! Where’s the evidence FFS

🤣🤣

Yeah yeah how many times have we heard that, yet you never ever see mass recruitment drives offering training, decent wages and secure employment!

This has been a long time in the making. Not enough support has been given to UK based manufacturing for many years. A lot of highly skilled engineers and operators had to reskill when they faced redundancy. Wasted skills and knowledge 😡 confidence needed to attract people back

Furthermore, I recently read that migration from the UK back to mainland Europe following Brexit Ref has reached an all time high. What more proof do you need to show that the UK has been training the EU workforce for the benefit of the EU states that want to break Britain!

😂😂😂

The skills shortage across Europe is as a result of incompetent management and stupid social policies. When a person can earn 14 million per year with social media why should youngsters seek apprenticeships that pay 550 GBP / Euros per month? It's a system that has been abused!

Bring back government co- funded high quality apprenticeships that pay a decent wage instead of a slave wages like Britain used to have before we joined the EU 🤔

They can stay home play video games let gov support them so why should they work .

Lol

The main reason is that, during the 1980s, so much traditional British manufacturing work went offshore. Companies now need to invest in training and apprenticeships to rebuild the skills base that they need for future expansion.

with 1 million unemployed i'm sure that theres plenty willing to train and get back to work or does require us to import skilled labour & keep the welfare state costs sky high

Bit early for your scaremongering isn't it? loadofbollocks

Let's have it right, ' Facing cheap labour shortage ' if the truth be known.

It’ll be fine, the uk has to have constant population growth so if the workers won’t be coming from the EU the government will ship them in from elsewhere. Those that voted leave due to freedom of movement will of swopped polish immigrants for Indian & African immigrants 😂😂

What Brexit

Brexit or no Brexit that a problem of the times ...all economies shortage of Labour ..in Ireland 'glory boys of EU' severe shortage ..health care, building etc..their nurses and teachers are going to NZ ..

Is this more scaremongering bullshit? So hard to tell the truth from the lies nowadays. toomuchfakenews

Talking skybollocks again

Is that because the manufacturing industry is in decline ? what a bunch of shit houses Sky are

Then theae companies can go back to teaching the skills to UK citizens. That would mean more job opportunities for those citizens who want to work.👍

Perhaps we will start investing in high quality apprenticeships for our young people then?

Yawn

What Brexit! The likes of you in the msm seen to have help scupper that

skyboxes
