NEW: Wall Street staged its biggest comeback in years, as stocks roared back from steep morning losses caused by a worse-than-expected report on inflation.

Wall Street staged its biggest comeback in years Thursday, as stocks roared back from steep morning losses caused by a worse-than-expected report on inflation.

The slump didn't last. Stocks shot up, driving the Dow up 827.87 points, or 2.8%, at 30,038.72. The Nasdaq climbed 232.05 points, or 2.2%, at 10,649.15. The overall Consumer Price Index, also called CPI, was 8.2% higher in September than a year earlier, versus August’s 8.3% inflation.
