The African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo says it will convene a meeting to discuss the state of affairs in Lephalale local municipality.

ANC councillors at the council are divided on the party’s PEC. Thulare also failed in his court bid to stop the ANC from removing him.

On Thursday, some ANC councillors attempted to disrupt the special council meeting to elect the new mayor, causing chaos in the council chamber. The police were called in to help control the situation. The DA’s Nico Pienaar was elected mayor with nine votes, while the ANC’s Aaron Mokgehle received seven.

ANC Limpopo spokesperson, Jimmy Machaka says, “The ANC in Limpopo Province, of course, is very disappointed about the outcomes of the Lephalale municipal council. Sadly, reports that we’re getting are that now the municipality is under the command of the Democratic Alliance, which is something that is contrary to the wishes of the voters of Lephalale municipality. The organisation will, of course, meet and reflect on this matter and decide on the next course of action.
