Well thats what happens when the velocity of money drops. All the wealth is centralised amongst people who do not actually have the ability to spend it and so the economy on the whole suffers as money doesn't move around as fast as it should.

On the one hand it is very sad if this leads to job losses. On the other hand it is hard to shed tears for the fashion industry and its relentless hyping of brands, celeb culture and over-consumption.
