Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has rejected the majority of voters who support exploring, developing and using more of the state’s gas reserves to drive down energy prices, admonishing the “obscene and disgusting” super profits of the gas companies.

by Freshwater Strategy, found support by 71 per cent of voters for Victoria to explore, develop and use more of the state’s own gas reserves. “The current Labor government has prevented more gas exploration. If we had more gas I am sure it would be cheaper,” one respondent said. Another said the state needed a “realistic energy policy – not just shut down coal and gas usage when larger countries worldwide are using much more than us”.Cost of living and energy prices are rated in the poll as the most important issue of the election campaign.
