The activists say Musk broke promises he made to them in a closed-door meeting about hate speech and misinformation earlier this month. During the meeting, which included the heads of the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People and digital racial justice group Colour of Change, Musk said he would create a “content moderation council” before he made any decisions to reinstate controversial accounts. He invited all of the civil rights groups in attendance to join.
“We got a commitment he wouldn’t replatform anyone until he had a transparent process,” said Anti-Defamation League vice president, who attended the meeting between Musk and the civil rights groups. “It is pretty clear that doing a Twitter poll is not a transparent process, especially because there’s no information about who voted in the poll.”
“Musk either changed his mind or lied to civil rights leaders and advertisers,” Gonzalez said. “He is a reckless and erratic billionaire who puts his whims ahead of concerns for the welfare of the online community.” She urged advertisers that care about brand safety to join the exodus of companies that have already pulled their ads off Twitter.
Major advertisers were already told by a major advertising firm not to support Twitter. They were ignored too... hate Musk all you like - nobody's rushing off just yet.
Note that the 'thousands' various IT publications claim have 'left Twitter for Mastodon' are actually on both platforms, waiting to see what Twitter delivers. Most of us are going nowhere. Mastodonians trying desperately for conversions.
Hit piece after hit piece. 🤦🏽♂️
elonmusk and the public poll made the right decision. It’s crazy that a US president was banned from a platform that allows Putin, Irans Supreme Leader and Afghanistan to have accounts. The hypocrisy of these Civil rights leaders 🤦🏾♂️
