Small business owners could be putting their businesses at risk by relying on younger employees to manage their cybersecurity, with a survey showing they are among the least cyber safe in the country.

also shows small businesses are facing their own problems because they are increasingly becoming attractive targets for cyber criminals but lack the resources of larger companies to combat them.

Ahead of the launch, it asked 89 Degrees East to survey small business owners and employees to gauge their attitudes to cyber threats and measure their competencies around cybersecurity. It found members of Gen Z were among the least cyber safe, lacking the awareness and key competencies of cybersecurity compared to their older colleagues.

It says the survey results also show small business owners should not rely on younger family members or employees to prepare their business against cyber attacks and other security problems. "Don't just assume your kids or younger employees are the safest pair of hands when it comes to online activity."The Cyber Wardens program has been developed in partnership with the Commonwealth Bank , Telstra, and the Australian Cyber Security Centre .COSBOA says it wants the program to become Australia's first cyber-safety workplace certification for the small business sector.

small businesses, we got you though

All business owners warned not to rely on gen z.

Well there’s something in that (be it ClickBait) ie trust nobody to handle your cyber security because it’s your responsibility, not anyone else’s. You need a diverse team from plenty of backgrounds and experience.

Here's cyber security for you. TMR and Translink are switching to use bank cards and phone to pay for buses. But we're told it'll take card details when you get on, then hold that till you get off to charge you. Bit like giving a blank check to a stranger.

Rely on CIA, MI6, Mossad... NSA, Pegasus

Rubbish

the age shouldn't matter as criminals and pissed off workers can be any age. Small business just needs to make sure they pay them right and treat them with high respect to make sure they keep their company safe

...and 30-somethings make the worst journos, what a crock😅

What is a gen z, where do you buy one?

i wouldnt trust the netflix generation with anything of value

'Small business owners warned not to rely on Gen Z' - probably should've stopped there.

LOL, no surprise. They are too busy reading all the doom and gloom in social media. They don't care about shutting their company down because they opened obvious malwear just to get a free pen. 😂😂

Lol
