The Department of Water and Sanitation says it may consider opening more Vaal Dam sluice gates should there be a further increase in water pressure.

It follows heavy rains which caused rivers, that feed into the Vaal and Orange River systems, to overflow. Some houses, situated along the riverbanks in Vereeniging, are submerged in water.

The department’s Acting Deputy Director-General of Regulation Compliance and Enforcement, Leonardo Manus says, “If we see an increase in levels then we might have to open a few more. We do have the water control officers who are using their WhatsApp groups. We should be in a good space for the remainder of this calendar year. However, the demand is also a bit higher than what it is supposed to be, especially in the Gauteng area.

Making sure there is shortage of water food 🐇

Our leaders lack vision, soon all that might be gone. They should have been busy preparing for another day along the Vaal

Don't ruin a good day today by thinking about a bad yesterday keep moving whit Brandonkaren11 Bitcoin mining investment got my withdrawal safely 👍

Why don't they anticipate that the catchment area is or going to receive more rain then start opening sluice gates early in anticipation not to endanger lives downstream. Do these people monitor the weather. Worse at the confluence of orange and Vaal. And Vaal n it's tributary

The same department failed to build more dams, which should have been done 26 years ago. Common sense does not prevail here.

And who is the Minister whom is in charge of this ? Why not mention his name? Or will we only get to know him when he is dead, like in the past? No one taking responsibility for opening the sluices? This is a South African special.

So has evacuation started of those that will be affected

While buying water from Lesotho

Good journalism would explain what does this mean to the average person living close to the dam. Ai 🚶🏾‍♂️🚶🏾‍♂️
